Pattern Drafting
What is this and how is it different from store- bought patterns?
Pattern drafting is creating a personalized garment pattern from scratch based on individual measurements and design preferences. It demands skills in garment construction and an understanding of body proportions. In contrast, store-bought patterns, or commercial patterns, are pre-made templates designed by professionals for purchase. They offer convenience and a variety of styles in standardized sizes. While commercial patterns are quick and versatile, pattern drafting allows for a highly customized fit and more creative freedom. It requires more time and skill but offers the opportunity to design unique garments. The choice depends on personal preferences, skill levels, and the desired level of customization. Some may combine both approaches for a balance between personalization and efficiency in the sewing process.
May be more catered to individuals who want to work or learn more about how patterns are made and are interested in working within the fashion and costume industry.
